2023 Château Haut-Bailly Pessac-Léognan If there is a more beloved and joyously approachable Grand Cru Classé de Graves than Haut-Bailly, we have yet to find it. This is Pessac-Léognan at its most purely pleasurable — a wine of extraordinary charm, silky generosity, and effortless elegance that has earned it a devoted global following and a reputation as one of Bordeaux's most reliably thrilling overachievers. Under the passionate ownership of the Wilmers family and the brilliant winemaking of Véronique Sanders, Haut-Bailly has ascended to the very pinnacle of the appellation, producing wines that rival and occasionally surpass the First Growths in sheer drinking pleasure. The 2023 is a breathtaking achievement — a luminous, perfumed, and deeply satisfying blend of blackcurrant, crushed raspberry, violet, and cedar, underpinned by Haut-Bailly's signature sandy-gravel minerality and framed by the most impossibly silky, caressing tannins in all of Bordeaux. Rich yet weightless, structured yet immediately seductive, complex yet utterly approachable — this is the rare Bordeaux that makes you want to open it tonight and cellar a case for twenty years simultaneously. One of the wines of the vintage. Do not miss it.

98 Points
"From healthy yields and a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc aged 16 months in 50% new French oak, the 2023 Château Haut-Bailly is an ultra-classy Haut-Bailly with its layered, round, seamless elegance. Ripe black cherries, currants, leafy tobacco, spring flowers, and graphite all emerge from this beauty, and it's medium to full-bodied, round, and remarkably complete and flawlessly balanced on the palate. It has fine tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. Gorgeous all the way, it will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise over the following three decades. Drink 2030-2059."
