2021 Chave - Saint-Joseph Estate
**Special price**
Jean-Louis Chave's Saint-Joseph is widely considered the reference point for the entire appellation, made from pure Syrah grown on steeply terraced slopes in the historic heartland around Lemps, Mauves, and Tournon, and long championed as a genuine bargain relative to the family's legendary Hermitage. The 2021 uses roughly 10% whole clusters during fermentation, then ages in used oak barrels for up to 20 months. Despite a difficult, cooler vintage across the Northern Rhône, Jeb Dunnuck called it absolutely brilliant, showing a deep ruby-purple hue with brilliant aromatics of ripe dark fruit, meaty and bloody nuances, graphite, and ground pepper, with beautiful florals emerging with air. Medium-bodied with a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, no hard edges, and outstanding length. A genuine reference-point Saint-Joseph that overdelivers relative to its price, drinking window 2024-2034.
