Hermann Wiemer was born in Bernkastel, Germany, into a family with three centuries of winemaking history in the Mosel Valley. He arrived in the United States in 1968 already trained in European traditions, and brought with him the skill of grafting delicate vinifera vines onto hardy American rootstock. In 1973 he purchased 140 acres on the western shore of Seneca Lake, drawn by its gravelly soils and cool climate, so reminiscent of home. Since 2007 the winery has been led by his longtime apprentice Fred Merwarth alongside agronomist Oskar Bynke, who continue his exacting approach to vineyard work and winemaking.

This dry bottling blends fruit from three estate vineyards along Seneca Lake's western shore, including the original site planted in 1976, each contributing its own slope, soil, and vine age to the final wine. Grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted, then whole-cluster pressed before a careful fermentation designed to preserve the variety's natural purity and site-driven minerality.

The result is vibrant and aromatic, opening with fragrant spring blossom notes that carry into a palate of early stone fruit and citrus. Bright acidity and a distinctive mineral edge run through a brilliant, lingering finish. Pour it with raw oysters, spicy Thai curry, or a piece of grilled trout.
