2025 Dio Fili - Xinomavro-Moschomavro Siatista Rose (750ml)
This rosé is a blend of Xinomavro, Greece's most celebrated indigenous red grape, and Moschomavro, an ultra-rare local variety indigenous to Siatista, meaning "black Muscat." Moschomavro had nearly died out by the 1970s before local growers in the region worked to preserve and replant it from old cuttings, part of a broader effort to rescue the area's near-forgotten vineyard heritage. Vineyards in this area sit at elevated altitude on rocky, limestone soils in a remote, historically significant wine region that was actually famous for its wines in the nineteenth century before falling into obscurity.
Aged in stainless steel, this rosé is bold in color, aroma, and palate. Deep pinkish red, the nose explodes with rich ripe red berries, crisp stone fruit, and hints of white pepper and minerality. The palate is floral, spicy, and exotic, medium to full-bodied, drinking almost like a light red wine, with ripe raspberry and wild strawberry building sweetness through the mid-palate before a briny, vibrant, mineral-driven finish.
This is a distinctive, food-friendly rosé well suited to grilled meats, Mediterranean mezze, or aged cheeses.
