Appleton Estate has been distilling rum in Jamaica's Nassau Valley since 1749, making it one of the few producers in the world that controls every stage of the process on a single property, growing and milling its own sugarcane and distilling, aging, and bottling entirely on site. The estate sits within St. Elizabeth Parish, where the Black River winds through fertile land surrounded by limestone hills. Master Blender Joy Spence, the first woman to hold that title at a major spirits house, crafts the 12 Year Old Rare Casks as a personal expression of her work with the estate's oldest stocks.

This blend brings together rare, hand-selected rums from both pot and column stills, each aged a minimum of twelve years in the tropical Jamaican climate, where heat and humidity accelerate maturation well beyond what cooler regions achieve. The rums are crafted using limestone-filtered water native to the estate, then blended and bottled at 43 percent alcohol by volume.

The rum shows a deep bronze color with a honey gold ring and mahogany reflections. Aromas of toasted oak, dried fruit, and hazelnut lead into dark cocoa, molasses, and orange peel, with vanilla and a hint of coffee underneath. The finish is long and warming.

"Previously known as Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rare Blend, this expression from the extraordinary Jamaican rum range is truly fantastic stuff. Matured for at least a dozen years in oak casks, this expression displays a marvellous flavour profile of ripe fruit, rich chocolate, molasses and more.Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Almonds and hazelnuts. Very rich and creamy. A touch of cr?me caramel.

Palate: Spicy, creamy palate. Digestive biscuits, guava and muscovado sugar.

Finish: Long finish with creaking oak and exotic spice.
