Diplomatico Planas Rum 750ml

Diplomático Planas comes from Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA), the Venezuelan distillery behind the Diplomático brand, founded in 1959 at the foot of the Andes Mountains in the state of Lara. The name Planas refers to the plains valley surrounding the distillery itself, and this expression was created to replace the earlier Diplomático Blanco Reserva in the brand's lineup, offering a more layered take on the white rum category.

The rum is fermented from molasses and sugarcane honey using DUSA's proprietary yeast strains, then distilled across the distillery's full range of equipment, a combination of copper pot stills, continuous column stills, and a batch kettle still originally built for whisky production. The resulting spirit matures for up to six years in American white oak barrels that previously held bourbon, developing color and depth before undergoing repeated charcoal filtration to strip that color back out, leaving a crystal-clear rum bottled at 47% ABV.

Despite its clarity, Planas carries real weight on the nose, with fresh cream, coconut, and a whisper of coffee. The palate brings vanilla, coconut, and tropical fruit balanced against dark chocolate and a touch of licorice, finishing clean and lingering with a gentle creamy sweetness and a spark of citrus peel.
