English Harbour 10 Year Reserve comes from Antigua Distillery Limited, the sole rum producer on the island since a group of local rum shop owners founded the operation in 1932 to consolidate purchasing and gain better control over production. The company built its reputation on Cavalier, the everyday rum still popular in Antigua today, but it wasn't until 1994 that ADL introduced English Harbour, named for the historic Antiguan naval harbour once used by Admiral Horatio Nelson's fleet, as its premium line. The 10 Year Reserve itself was unveiled in 2006 to give longtime English Harbour drinkers something to move up to from the standard 5 Year.

The rum is distilled from molasses on ADL's copper column stills, a lineage that runs from an original four-column Savalle still through the three-column John Dore still installed in 1991. After distillation, the spirit is diluted and laid down in charred, used bourbon and Tennessee whiskey barrels, where it matures a full decade in Antigua's warm tropical climate before final blending.

The result is a deep mahogany rum with an aroma of vanilla and cane sugar. On the palate, brown sugar, toffee, and oak mingle with floral notes, dried fruit, and a hint of black pepper, closing on a long, smoky-oak finish.
