English Harbour Antigua Gold Rum 1L
English Harbour Antigua Gold Rum comes from Antigua Distillery Limited, incorporated in 1932 by a group of rum shop owners originally from the Portuguese island of Madeira. The company built its early business selling rum under the Caballero and later Cavalier names before launching the premium English Harbour range in the 1990s. Gold sits in that lineup as a step up from the brand's unaged Silver expression, carrying a touch of barrel character while remaining more approachable than the distillery's dedicated aged bottlings.
Like the rest of the English Harbour range, Gold is distilled from imported molasses on ADL's five-column continuous still, one of only two all-copper stills still operating in the Caribbean, which gives the spirit a light body despite its full flavor. The rum picks up its color and some early oak influence from a period of maturation in used American oak barrels before blending and bottling at 40% ABV, positioning it as a flexible middle ground between the distillery's clear rum and its longer-aged reserves.
The nose and palate bring molasses, toffee, and mild tropical fruit like pineapple and citrus, with a light touch of oak lending pepper and clove spice alongside a subtle nuttiness that rounds out the finish.
