English Harbour Port Cask Finish Rum 700ml
English Harbour Port Cask Finish begins as Antigua Distillery Limited's standard column-still rum, the same distillery founded in 1932 by a group of local rum shop owners in St. John's. Rather than releasing this rum on its own, the distillery's master blender selects it for a secondary maturation in century-old Port casks, many originally used by Royal Oporto and tracing back to the Portuguese heritage of some of ADL's founding families. Each batch and bottle is numbered, marking it as a small, limited release within the wider English Harbour range.
The rum starts its life aging five years in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred into the old Port barrels for an additional three to six months. That finishing period draws out deep dark fruit character and imparts a subtle wine-like sweetness without overwhelming the base spirit. The rum is bottled unfiltered at 46% ABV, preserving the full range of aromatics developed across both maturation stages.
The nose opens with white peach, floral honey, and oaky vanilla before shifting into blackberry jam, burnt caramel, and black peppercorn. On the palate, dark fruit and caramel meet toasted nuts and sweet spice, with a lingering touch of Port sweetness carrying through the long finish.
