Planteray Stiggins' Fancy Pineapple comes from Maison Ferrand, the Cognac house whose master blender Alexandre Gabriel worked with spirits historian David Wondrich to revive a nearly forgotten style of colonial-era pineapple rum. The pair drew inspiration from an 1824 pineapple-rum recipe and, fittingly, named the release after the Reverend Stiggins, a character from Charles Dickens's "The Pickwick Papers" known for preaching temperance while secretly nursing his own pineapple rum. The rum first appeared around 2015 and has since become a favorite among bartenders worldwide.

Production splits into two separate processes built around hand-cut Victoria pineapples, chosen after extensive trials for their balance of sweetness and flavor. The rinds are infused in Planteray 3 Stars rum for about a week, then redistilled in a traditional pot still, while the ripe flesh is steeped separately in Planteray Original Dark rum for several months. The two components are finally blended and married together in French oak before bottling, a process built entirely on real fruit rather than artificial flavoring or added sugar.

The nose leads with vivid pineapple and tropical fruit aromas layered over vanilla and clove. On the palate, roasted pineapple meets rich molasses and light peppered spice, with a pleasing bitterness carrying through to a long, warming finish.

"A tribute to the character created by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers, Reverend Stiggins, whose favorite drink was pineapple rum.

The barks of Victoria pineapples are infused in Plantation 3 Stars rum, which is then further distilled. Separately, the pineapple fruit is infused in Plantation Original Dark rum. Both distillate and fruit infusion are finally blended together, creating a rich and delicious pineapple bouquet, accented by smoky and clove notes.

TASTING NOTES: A rich and delicious bouquet, accented by smoky notes and aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus peel, and a touch of clove. The palate opens with a structured, pleasant sensation of ripe banana, pineapple, and spices layered in a smoky finish.
