Planteray, previously known as Plantation Rum, is produced by Alexandre Gabriel and the house of Pierre Ferrand, a Cognac producer that has built out an extensive rum portfolio sourced from distilleries across the Caribbean and beyond. This limited edition comes from Travellers Liquors in Belize City, one of the country's most respected distilleries, and represents a rare single-vintage release distilled back in 2008.

The rum begins as molasses that is fermented for three to four days before being run through a multi-column still. It then matures for thirteen years in two hundred litre bourbon casks in the tropical heat of Belize, a climate that accelerates aging and concentrates flavor. The rum is then shipped across the Atlantic to Javrezac, France, where it spends a further two years finishing in Ferrand casks, a method the brand calls double aging, before being bottled at 48.3% ABV as part of a very limited run.

The nose leads with old bourbon character, layering cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and roasted almonds over notes of leather, cocoa, honey, and banana. The palate turns toward citrus and pear, caramel, coconut, and baking spice, finishing long with dried fruit, cherry, and a touch of coffee.
