Planteray Sealander comes from Maison Ferrand, the Cognac house founded by master blender Alexandre Gabriel, and carries forward the multi-origin sourcing approach that defines the Planteray (formerly Plantation) brand. Gabriel built Sealander as what is believed to be the first rum ever blended from three different oceans, drawing distillate from Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados on the Atlantic, Saint Aubin in Mauritius on the Indian Ocean, and Rum Co. of Fiji in the South Pacific. The expression debuted internationally under the Plantation name in 2023 and was later named Rhum de l'Année at Les Spiritueux de l'Année before joining Planteray's permanent US lineup.

Each component starts differently: Barbados and Fiji contribute molasses-based rum distilled on pot and column stills, while Mauritius supplies an agricole-style rum made from fresh cane juice. All three age tropically in ex-bourbon casks at their island of origin before being shipped to France, where Gabriel blends them and finishes the combined rum for roughly a year in casks previously used for Ferrand Cognac. The finished blend is bottled at 40% ABV.

The nose opens with holiday spice, gooseberry, and gingerbread, along with a whisper of smoky molasses. On the palate, clover honey and nutmeg meet licorice, cinnamon, and vanilla fudge, trailing into a long, gently sweet finish.
