Rhum Barbancourt 3 Star 4 yr Rum 750ml
Rhum Barbancourt 3 Star continues nearly 160 years of Gardère family winemaking tradition at the same Haitian distillery Dupré Barbancourt founded in 1862, adapting the double-distillation methods of his native Cognac region to local sugarcane. The estate works with more than 3,000 growers who cultivate Madame Mevs, a Haitian hybrid cane variety chosen for its aromatic potential, across roughly 600 hectares. Jean Gardère modernized the operation in the 1950s, his son Thierry later expanded production capacity, and today Thierry's daughter Delphine Gardère oversees the distillery, bringing a more international outlook to the family business.
Freshly harvested cane is delivered to the distillery and pressed almost immediately, then double-distilled in copper pot stills using the same cognac-inspired process employed across the Barbancourt range. Rather than the fifteen or eight years given to the brand's older expressions, 3 Star rests just four years in French Limousin oak, aiming for youthful brightness over deep wood influence.
The nose offers citrus zest and fresh sugarcane alongside creamy toffee and vanilla. On the palate, oak tannin and buttery spice meet green orchard fruit and a distinctly grassy, agricole character, closing on a crisp, slightly tannic finish where cane sweetness lingers longest.
