Rhum Barbancourt Haitian Proof White Rum 750ml

Rhum Barbancourt was founded in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, a Frenchman from the cognac producing region of Charente who applied techniques learned there to Haitian sugarcane. When he died the distillery passed to his wife Nathalie Gardère, and it has remained in the Gardère family ever since, now led by Delphine Gardère as the fourth generation to run the company since her great uncle Paul took over in the early twentieth century. Based in Port-au-Prince, Barbancourt is widely regarded as Haiti's most famous export and one of the finest rum houses in the world.

Haitian Proof is distilled entirely from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, following the agricole method Dupré Barbancourt introduced more than a century and a half ago. The distillery works with a network of more than three thousand local growers who cultivate Madame Mevs, a hybrid cane variety selected specifically for its aromatic qualities, and the juice is run through traditional copper column stills. Left unaged, the rum is bottled crystal clear at a robust 110 proof, or 55% ABV, a strength meant to showcase the full intensity of the cane distillate.

The nose is floral and green, with fresh cut cane, citrus zest, and a hint of eucalyptus, leading into a spicy, full bodied palate with light pepper and a long, dry, assertive finish.
