Hacienda Santa Teresa was founded in 1796 in Venezuela's Aragua Valley, originally producing coffee, cocoa, and sugarcane, and the estate began distilling rum in 1830. The Vollmer family has run the property ever since, now in its fifth generation, guiding it through the country's wars, revolutions, and political upheavals along the way. Santa Teresa was the first rum producer to state openly on its label that it uses a solera system, a fractional blending method borrowed from Andalusian sherry production, and it remains the estate's flagship export.

The rum was created in 1996 to mark the hacienda's two hundredth anniversary, when the fourth generation of the Vollmer family asked their master blenders to design a new expression drawing on two centuries of craft. Three distillate styles, light column, heavy column, and pot still, are aged separately for four to thirty five years before being blended and moved through a solera of Hogshead barrels arranged in four cascading rows, each only ever half emptied and replenished from the row above. The blend then rests a final time in large vats of French Limousin oak, a system Santa Teresa maintains ensures every bottle still carries a trace of the original 1992 mother rum.

The result is a dry, balanced rum with notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, and dried fruit, layered with leather, spice, and a touch of tobacco through a smooth, lingering finish.

"To commemorate the Hacienda's bicentennial in 1996, Alberto Vollmer Herrera, member of the 4th generation of the family, challenged the company to develop a rum that could leverage all of its mastery learned in the first 200 years.

Santa Teresa 1796 is a bold and elegant rum with blends up to 35 years aged in bourbon oak barrels, then further aged through the artisanal Solera method resulting in a dry, smooth and balanced rum.

Nose Fruity aroma with notes of wood.

PalateUnique taste of nuts, leather, vanilla, cinnamon, dark chocolate, prunes hints of honey and pepper.
