Established in the seventeenth century and managed by the Marone Cinzano family since 1973, the 2018 Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino draws from Tuscany’s largest certified organic estate. Sited on the southern slopes below Sant’Angelo in Colle, the vineyards face directly toward the Orcia River. This elevated position receives protective mountain winds while moderating sea breezes sustain consistent ripening across the hand-harvested Sangiovese blocks. After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, the wine ages for three years in large Slavonian oak barrels before spending an additional year resting in bottle—a deliberate regimen that ensures balanced integration and extends well past the appellation’s statutory minimum.

The 2018 vintage presents a deep ruby red core tinged with mature garnet highlights. The aromatic profile opens with concentrated black cherry and plum jam, layered with baking spice, toasted vanilla, and dried rose petal. On the palate, the wine delivers a warm, generous mouthfeel anchored by firm, well-managed tannins and clear structural depth, culminating in a long, persistent finish marked by subtle earth and dark fruit notes.

This Brunello pairs beautifully with game preparations, slow-roasted red meats, and aged Tuscan cheeses. The extended barrel aging and bottle rest provide both immediate drinkability and sufficient structural framework for cellaring.

94 Points
"This promising Brunello is hallmarked by pretty cherry, strawberry, currant and floral aromas and flavors. Starts out elegant and lacy, then the dense matrix of tannins emerges, giving different character to the long finish. Reveals wild herb and mineral notes that add depth. Best from 2025 through 2043. 16,600 cases made, 3,000 cases imported."
