The 2019 Carpineta Fontalpino Do ut des is a benchmark Super Tuscan that combines certified organic viticulture with separate varietal fermentation and extended French oak aging to deliver a structured, full-bodied red.

Cultivated across the Cresti family’s roughly ninety-hectare estate near Castelnuovo Berardenga, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are grown in close proximity to historic Montaperti hill. Each variety ferments separately to preserve distinct aromatic profiles before the winemaker assembles the final blend. This approach keeps the fruit forward and expressive while the French oak maturation builds a reliable tannin backbone and structural depth.

Tasting Notes

This vintage presents an almost opaque ruby appearance and opens with concentrated aromas of blackberry and ripe plum, followed by nuanced layers of cocoa, cedar, and a touch of balsamic spice. On the palate, expect a smoothly textured mouthfeel guided by polished tannins and crisp acidity. The dark fruit and savory herbal elements carry through to a notably long finish, offering both immediate approachability and solid cellaring potential.

Suggested Food Pairings

  • Grilled ribeye steaks that harmonize with the wine’s savory cedar notes
  • Braised short ribs where prolonged cooking tenderizes the meat to match the refined tannic structure
  • Dark chocolate desserts that amplify the natural cocoa and plum extraction

Bottled in a standard 750ml format and sourced from Tuscany’s southern hills, this wine merges traditional Italian blending methods with modern organic agriculture for consistent, food-friendly performance.

94 Points
"Aromas and flavors of black currant, black cherry, blackberry, cedar, iron and tobacco are intense and wrapped in a cloak of vanilla and smoky oak. There are still assertive tannins, with the fruit portion echoing on the finish. Mellowing. Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2027 through 2040. 3,000 cases made, 300 cases imported."
