Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, who left the well-known vineyards of Chianti Classico behind to test himself against the more austere character of Sangiovese in Montalcino. The estate entered the market with its first Brunello in 1978 and has since become one of the region's most celebrated producers, now guided by the second and third generations of the Neri family.

This Brunello, known as the White Label, is the estate's foundational wine and draws on Sangiovese Grosso from several of the family's own vineyards on the eastern and southern slopes of Montalcino, where soils range from clay and loam to galestro and limestone. The wine ferments in steel before twenty days of skin maceration, then ages for roughly three and a half years in large Slavonian oak barrels.

The 2020 shows a deep red color with brick tones and a bouquet of crushed black cherry, blood orange, and sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and well balanced, with firm, integrated tannins that give it real length, finishing with a persistent note of cranberry and tart red citrus. Pair it with grilled venison or a slice of aged Parmigiano.

94 Points
"Exhibiting cherry, raspberry, eucalyptus, iron and spice aromas and flavors, this supple red is complex and compelling. Supported by a swath of dusty tannins, yet everything feels in the right place. Excellent length. Best from 2027 through 2042. 8,190 cases made, 3,300 cases imported."
