2020 Fonterutoli - Siepi Toscana Rosso IGT (750ml)
A 50 percent Merlot and 50 percent Sangiovese blend crafted in Tuscany’s historic Siepi vineyard, the 2020 Fonterutoli Rosso IGT offers structured elegance driven by generations of disciplined viticulture. The Mazzei family first established this single-site planting in the early 1980s, leveraging a naturally shaded microclimate and unusually deep soil profiles to promote steady sugar accumulation and phenolic development in both varieties.
After a cold, moderately wet winter and a cool spring with evenly distributed rain, the 2020 growing season settled into a prolonged summer moderated by secondary showers in June and September. Those seasonal shifts protected vines from heat stress while yielding concentrated, thick-skinned fruit that carries substantial weight without heaviness. The 2020 release presents a dark-fruited core of black cherry and blackberry framed by toasty resinous oak, cedar structure, iron minerality, and a delicate elder blossom accent. Medium to full bodied, it delivers clean acidity and refined tannins, closing with a long, bright finish that broadens noticeably after decanting.
Built for occasion-driven dining, this vintage aligns seamlessly with rich protein-forward dishes and assertive cheeses. Pair it with roasted duck, grilled ribeye, or aged Tuscan pecorino to balance its inherent structure and highlight its evolving aromatic layers.
