2020 Gagliole, Agricola - Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT Gagliole (750ml)

A great Tuscan wine hiding in plain sight — and one of Panzano's most thrillingly pure and compelling expressions of 100% Sangiovese. Antonio Galloni of Vinous awarded the 2020 Gagliole a stunning 96 Points, calling it fabulous and declaring that rich and ample, it possesses remarkable breadth and textural intensity with all elements so beautifully balanced — cedar, pipe tobacco, mint, dried flowers, and mocha all building as the wine shows off its class, with pretty floral and saline accents extending the finish. Wine Advocate awarded 95 Points, praising it as a very special organic wine delivering the goods up front with immediate fruit intensity — aromas of ripe cherry and blackberry with a bright and lively personality, soft texture, and pretty layers of sweet fruit offering tremendous food-pairing potential.  

Nestled at 450–500 metres elevation in Panzano in Chianti with a south-southwest exposure, the Gagliole vineyard produces 100% Sangiovese from 15 to 30-year-old vines grown on Pietraforte rock — the same extraordinary mineral-rich bedrock that defines the most coveted terroirs of the Conca d'Oro. Handpicked into small boxes, manually selected in the cellar, vinified with indigenous yeasts in 45-hectoliter French oak vats with 30 days of maceration, then aged a minimum of 12 months in French oak barrels followed by cement élevage — a production philosophy of meticulous craft and uncompromising quality. Intense ruby with purple highlights, the nose is deeply spiced with cloves, cinnamon, plum, licorice, and black cherry, with hints of chocolate and walnuts, leading to a palate of wonderfully balanced dense sweet tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long mineral finish of real grandeur.
