2018 Talenti - Brunello di Montalcino (750ml)
Born from five old-vine Sangiovese blocks planted in 1981, the 2018 Talenti Brunello di Montalcino delivers focused concentration straight from the southern Montalcino hillsides. The vineyards sit on south- and southeast-facing inclines at 250 to 400 meters elevation, tapping into mineral-rich sandy loam layered with clay and galestro marl. After harvesting, the fruit undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel before entering the aging phase. Over a minimum of twenty-four months, the base wine rests in a calculated split of 500-liter French oak tonneaux and large Slavonian casks, a hybrid approach that softens tannic edges while preserving authentic fruit purity, followed by additional bottle rest prior to release.
The pour presents a deep ruby core streaked with garnet, releasing aromatics of sun-dried stone fruit, wild blueflower, and dried balsamic herbs. On the palate, the profile remains full and densely textured, guided by sweet, polished tannins and a finish that extends well past the mid-palate. Its solid structure pairs best with robust preparations: a char-grilled filet mignon, roasted leg of lamb, or thick-cut tajarin tossed in a slow-simmered beef and pork ragù. Decant for thirty minutes before serving to allow the secondary oak integration and herbal complexities to fully surface.
