2021 Argiano - Brunello di Montalcino (750ml)
Aged in large-format French and Slavonian oak casks to preserve varietal purity, the 2021 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino delivers balanced structure and classic Tuscan typicity from estate-grown Sangiovese. Grown across 57 hectares in Sant’Angelo in Colle, the southwestern sector of Montalcino, the vines rest on limestone-rich soils at 270 to 320 meters elevation. Cooling breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea moderate summer heat and retain natural acidity, while vines reaching 65 years of age contribute concentrated fruit. Under winemaker Bernardino Sani, who took over in 2012, the property converted to certified organic farming in 2018 and prioritizes traditional élevage over modern extraction techniques.
Tasting Profile
This vintage presents an intense ruby hue with a brightening rim. The aromatic profile highlights fresh dark cherry, blackberry, and warm clove. The palate drives forward with a juicy midsection anchored by firm, pithy tannins and pronounced structural tension, qualities that indicate excellent cellaring capacity while remaining accessible upon release.
Suggested Pairings
- Roasted or braised beef cuts
- Game meats including venison or wild boar
- Aged pecorino and herb-crusted lamb
By skipping small barriques in favor of large oak foudres, Argiano ensures the wine remains focused on fruit clarity and regional character rather than heavy wood spice. This approach yields a disciplined, savory red built to complement rich protein dishes and reward patient cellaring.
