Sourced from Gaiole in Chianti’s higher-altitude vineyards, the 2021 Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Riserva delivers structured Sangiovese complexity through certified organic cultivation and twenty-four months of mixed-oak maturation.

This Riserva draws on estate-grown Sangiovese blended with a measured portion of Merlot, sourced from five distinct sub-zones: Casi, Meleto, Poggiarso, Moci, and San Piero. The 1,000-hectare property operates under strict organic protocols, preserving soil biodiversity and yielding fruit with concentrated tannic structure. Following hand-harvesting and careful sorting, fermentation occurs spontaneously in temperature-controlled stainless steel before the wine ages twenty-one to twenty-four months, split evenly between large-format Slavonian oak casks and French oak barrels. The extended maceration and wood interaction refine the grain while retaining core regional freshness.

In the glass, the wine presents a deep ruby color that softens toward garnet with time. The nose opens with bright red cherry, wild blackberry, dried violet, and warm baking spices. It moves onto a round, velvety palate backed by firm yet polished tannins that sustain a long, savory finish through each sip.

Serve this Riserva alongside roasted lamb cuts, venison stews, or slow-cooked beef dishes. Its bright acidity and structural grip also cut through the salt of aged Pecorino Toscano and other rustic Tuscan cheeses. For optimal clarity and aroma release, decant for thirty minutes and pour at 60°F to 62°F.
