Cultivated on a single calcareous terraced plot rising 350 to 400 meters above Castellina in Chianti, the 2022 Il Poggiale delivers a precise, terroir-driven expression built for both early accessibility and sustained cellar life. Dominant Sangiovese vines, trained at high elevation for slower ripening and retained natural acidity, are harvested mid‑October to lock in phenolic maturity before blending with measured portions of Canaiolo and Colorino.

Following fermentation in temperature‑controlled steel tanks and full malolactic conversion, the wine ages 12 to 18 months in French barriques—one‑fifth new—which contribute controlled vanilla and tobacco nuance while preserving the steep limestone minerality. An additional 12‑month bottle rest ensures complete tannin integration prior to release.

2022 Tasting Notes
The vintage pours a vivid, intense ruby tone with an aromatic framework of crushed red cherry and violet petals grounded by flinty mineral undertones. The palate opens with bright acidity and savory herbal notes, transitioning smoothly into a clean, fruit-forward finish that maintains structure without heaviness.

Suggested Pairings
Firm polyphenols and earthy depth make this wine a functional match for robust preparations. Serve alongside slow-braised wild hare ragĂą, pan-seared roasted quail with juniper, or a board featuring aged Tuscan Pecorino and wild mushroom crostini.

92 Points
"Round and fruity, boasting cherry, boysenberry, pomegranate and sanguine flavors. Quickly gives way to dusty tannins and a long, fruit-filled aftertaste. Shows lovely freshness. Give this a year or two to integrate. Sangioveto, Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo. Be..."
