Produced from separately vinified grape lots at an estate credited among the original three founders of Brunello di Montalcino, the 2022 Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino offers structured aging potential alongside immediate drinkability. Tenuta Il Poggione cultivates 350 acres of vineyards situated up to 1,500 feet above sea level, featuring the historic Vigna Paganelli block established in 1964. Following fermentation, the wine rests for roughly twelve months across small and large oak casks before spending another six months in bottle to stabilize before release.

The 2022 vintage pours a deep ruby with magenta reflections. The nose reveals black cherry and plum notes intertwined with violet, sweet herbs, and gentle spice. A medium to full body gives way to a plush palate supported by ripe tannins, leading directly into a pronounced iron-tinged, mineral finish.

Built for versatility at the table, this wine balances richness with bright acidity. Pair it with slow-cooked meat sauces, herb-seasoned grilled sausages, or firm aged cheeses. Drinking this Rosso shortly after opening allows the aromatic layers to fully emerge while maintaining the structured backbone created through its dedicated parcel selection and extended oak maturation.

91 Points
"A dark, deep red, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino smolders up with a

blend of grilled herbs, dusty earth, incense and rose. It's cool-toned

and lifted in feel, with soft textures and ripe violet-laced red berry

fruits. This nishes staining and long with a youthfully chewy sensation

and framing tannins. Sweet lavender and cocoa notes gradually taper

off
