Grown on stony soils just 500 meters from Montalcino’s center, the 2023 Martoccia Poggio Apricale delivers a focused, food-ready Tuscan red built through natural stainless-steel fermentation and three months of mixed Slavonian and French oak aging. Created by Mauro Brunelli and Anna Savini at Martoccia Farm, this Toscana Rosso IGT merges Sangiovese with Merlot and Colorino to balance regional herbal notes with softer berry texture. Hand-harvested in late September and drawn from low-yield, sustainably managed vines, the wine retains a naturally bright acidity that supports its fine-grained tannins.

The nose opens with plum skin, tart red cherry, dried blood orange, and mineral undertones, followed by a crisp, succulent palate that finishes clean and persistent. James Suckling awarded the 2023 vintage 90 points, specifically highlighting its precise fruit delivery and underlying energy. Those vibrant structural elements make it a dependable partner for tomato-based pastas, grilled poultry, herb-roasted lamb, and aged pecorino or Parmigiano-Reggiano.

Offering straightforward elegance from an estate recognized for serious cellar-age candidates, the 750 ml bottle provides everyday drinking confidence without sacrificing geographic authenticity or vineyard-level detail.
