Baleia's vineyards sit a stone's throw from St Sebastian Bay — the whale nursery of South Africa — in the remote Lower Duiwenhoksrivier valley on the Cape South Coast, just 10 kilometres from the Indian Ocean. Salty coastal breezes sweep inland to temper the midday heat, while the farm's pure solid limestone soils with very high mineral content impart a chalky minerality and maritime salinity that is entirely its own.

Baleia's food-driven philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention — trusting the work done in the vineyard and the terroir in which the vines are grown. Living soils, strong roots, healthy vines, and perfectly ripened fruit are their guiding principles. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc that leans into the coastal influence — crisp, mineral-driven, and vibrant, with the kind of natural freshness that only comes from vines pushed to their limits by wild elements and limestone bedrock.
