2023 Lail - Sauvignon Blanc Napa Blueprint
Lail Vineyards was founded in 1995 by Robin Daniel Lail, a fifth generation Napa Valley vintner whose family history traces back to the 1879 founding of Inglenook by her great granduncle, Gustave Niebaum. Robin also helped establish Dominus and Merryvale earlier in her career and has long been considered one of the most influential women in Napa winemaking. She brought on Philippe Melka early in his career, and he remains the estate's winemaker today alongside co-winemaker Maayan Koschitzky, continuing a tradition of precise, terroir focused winemaking across the property.
Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc, first produced in 2007, is sourced from a handful of Napa sites including Rewa Vineyard in Coombsville, Gamble Ranch, and Reidel Vineyard on Atlas Peak. Each vineyard block is pressed separately in small lots, allowing Melka and Koschitzky to preserve the distinct character each site contributes before blending. A portion of the wine sees French oak, adding texture without masking the fruit's natural brightness.
The 2023 offers aromas of citrus zest, green apple, and lemongrass, with a creamy, layered texture supported by bold acidity and a distinct mineral edge. Flavors of melon, Bosc pear, and a whisper of pineapple round out the finish. This wine works well alongside grilled shrimp, a fresh green salad, or goat cheese crostini.
