2024 Miguel Torres - Sauvignon Blanc Serena Mode (0.0%) (750ml)
Familia Torres traces its roots to 1870, when brothers Jaime and Miguel Torres Vendrell founded a wine export business in Vilafranca del Penedès, Catalonia, building on a family history as vine growers dating back centuries earlier. Five generations later, the family expanded into Chile in 1979, establishing Miguel Torres Chile in the Curicó Valley as the country's first foreign owned winery. That venture introduced practices like temperature controlled stainless steel fermentation and French oak aging to the Chilean industry, and it continues to explore new styles today, including Serena Mode, the house's line of dealcoholized wines made from real, vintage dated varietal fruit rather than blended concentrates.
This bottling starts as a genuine Sauvignon Blanc, grown in the Limarí Valley of northern Chile, a cool climate region known for its mineral rich soils. After fermentation, the wine undergoes a gentle process to remove the alcohol while preserving as much of the grape's natural aromatics and acidity as possible, resulting in a finished wine with essentially zero percent alcohol by volume.
Pale yellow in the glass, this wine offers the classic Sauvignon Blanc bouquet of gooseberry, lime zest, and grapefruit, layered with elderflower, passionfruit, and a touch of fresh cut grass. The palate is fruity and dense, carrying vibrant acidity through a long, persistent finish that keeps it lively despite the absence of alcohol. It works well alongside a light seafood salad, sushi, or fresh goat cheese.
