Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an intensely peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky that combines sharp briny maritime character with deep smoky complexity and structured fruit sweetness. Named after the Corryvreckan whirlpool located between Jura and Islay, this expression delivers some of the most concentrated peat aromas available in modern Scottish malting.

The spirit draws exclusively from Ardbeg’s lowland stores and matures in a precise combination of freshly charred American oak hogsheads, first-fill European oak butts, and Bourbon barrels. The youngest distillate blended into the final composition has aged nine years, allowing enough time for heavy phenolic compounds to integrate with residual vanillin and tannins without losing the distillery’s coastal saltiness. Bottled at 54.3% alcohol by volume and unchillfiltered, the liquid retains native oil fractions that carry aromatic compounds straight to the palate.

Initial nose contact reveals immediate wood smoke, kelp, and lime zest layered over crushed vanilla pods and dried apricot. Mid-palate shifts toward dark chocolate, cracked black pepper, cinnamon bark, and tart plum, while the extended finish settles into toasted seaweed, treacle, and a clean mineral dryness. This structural balance supports straightforward neat pours, chilled-on-the-rocks tasting, or measured use in heavily spiced Old Fashioned variations.

  • Origin: Port Ellen, Islay, Scotland
  • Classification: Single Malt Scotch Whisky
  • Volume: 750 ml
  • Alcohol Content: 54.3% ABV
  • Peat Input: Approximately 55–60 PPM
  • Cask Composition: American Oak Hogsheads, European Oak Butts, Bourbon Barrels

Each bottle captures distinct seasonal temperature swings recorded during maturation along the western Scottish islands, providing both casual consumers and collection-focused buyers with a structurally complete dram that bridges early-island boldness with long-cellaring refinement.

"Don't be intimidated by this single malt's 57.1 percent ABV content, the alcohol in this whisky weaves seamlessly into its profile. On the nose, maple syrup and toasted oak aromas set a powerful tone, followed by layers of red berries and a hint of earth. Bold smoky notes finally emerge on the palate, and there they linger for an age, prolonging the finish for an eternity."
"Ardbeg Corryvreckan takes its name from the famous whirlpool that lies to the north of Islay, where only the bravest souls dare to venture. Swirling aromas and torrents of deep, peaty, peppery taste lurk beneath the surface of this beautifully balanced dram. Like the whirlpool itself, Corryvreckan is not for the faint-hearted! Awarded The World's Best Single Malt in 2010 by the World Whiskies Awards."
