Balblair 12 yr Highland Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
Balblair distillery has stood on the banks of the Dornoch Firth in the Northern Highlands since 1790, making it one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries. Founded by John Ross at Edderton, it operated under the Ross family for a century before changing hands several times over the following decades and eventually settling under the ownership of International Beverage Holdings. After years of releasing whisky by vintage year rather than age, Balblair shifted in the mid-2010s to a traditional age-statement range, with the 12 Year Old now serving as the defining expression of the distillery's house style.
This whisky is matured in a combination of American oak ex-bourbon barrels and double-fired American oak casks, a pairing that lends noticeable warmth and spice without overwhelming Balblair's naturally fruit-forward character. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and free of added coloring, staying true to the distillery's commitment to presenting its spirit with minimal intervention.
The nose offers bright lemon peel alongside creamy vanilla and crisp green apple, with soft floral notes underneath. On the palate, ground spice and dried orange mingle with set honey and ripe pear, while the finish turns creamy and slightly leathery, closing on a lingering trace of sweet vanilla and gentle oak warmth.
