Port Charlotte 10 yr Heavily Peated Single Malt Whiskey 750ml

Bruichladdich distillery was established on Islay in the 1880s by the Harvey brothers, then fell silent for decades before a group of independent whisky enthusiasts revived it in 2000 under master distiller Jim McEwan. Known primarily for its unpeated core range, the distillery introduced Port Charlotte in 2006 as its heavily peated line, named for a nearby village and named in tribute to a defunct local distillery of the same name.

Port Charlotte 10 Year Old is distilled, matured, and bottled entirely on Islay using Scottish barley peated to roughly 40 parts per million. The spirit spends a decade maturing in a combination of first and second-fill American bourbon barrels along with second-fill French wine casks, a mix that softens the smoke with layers of fruit and spice. The whisky is bottled at 50% ABV, giving it more weight and intensity than many standard-strength Islay malts.

The nose combines smoked barley, sea spray, and toasted oak with lemon zest and vanilla cream. On the palate, sweet malt and salted caramel meet charred oak and black pepper, all wrapped in a persistent coastal minerality. The finish runs long and smoky, tinged with brine and a final trace of warm vanilla that lingers well after the glass is empty.
