Bruichladdich (Classic Laddie) Scottish Barley Whiskey 750ml

Bruichladdich Distillery was founded in 1881 on the Rinns of Islay, overlooking Loch Indaal, though by the late twentieth century it had fallen into disrepair before eventually being revived. Now owned by Remy Cointreau, the distillery has become known for exploring questions of barley provenance more deeply than almost any other in Scotland, alongside producing the peated Port Charlotte and the intensely peated Octomore. The Classic Laddie was developed by head distiller Adam Hannett as the flagship expression meant to define Bruichladdich's signature house style: unpeated, floral, and barley-forward, standing apart from the smoky reputation most associate with Islay.

Distilled entirely from unpeated Scottish barley using much of the distillery's original Victorian equipment, the whisky undergoes slow fermentation and trickle distillation in traditional wooden vats. Each batch is a vatting of dozens of casks, sometimes as many as 76, spanning several vintages and cask types, primarily first-fill ex-bourbon barrels along with occasional wine casks. The whisky carries no age statement, is never chill filtered or artificially colored, and is bottled at a notably high 50% ABV, a strength the distillery says lets the barley character come through more clearly.

The nose offers orchard fruit, golden raisin, and raw honey alongside sea spray and light florals like honeysuckle. On the palate, barley sugar sweetness meets ginger, cinnamon, and a touch of salt, finishing with warm vanilla fudge and dry, spicy oak.
