Bruichladdich Edition 17.3 Octomore Single Malt Whiskey 700ml

Bruichladdich is an Islay distillery, and Octomore is its range of super-heavily peated single malts, bottled young at or near cask strength. Despite their enormous peat levels, the distillery's tall, narrow-necked stills produce a whisky that remains balanced and elegant. Each Octomore is conceived, distilled, matured, and bottled on Islay.

Edition 17.3 is the single farm, single field, single vintage expression of the 17 Series. It is distilled from 100% Islay Concerto barley grown in Irene's Field on Octomore Farm, just two miles from the distillery, and malted to 132.1 PPM. The spirit matured for five years in first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill Ribera del Duero, Sauternes, Eiswein, and Syrah wine casks. It is non-chill filtered, has no added color, and is brought to its bottling strength of 60.9% ABV with Octomore Spring water.

Sunlit gold in color, the whisky opens with immediate coastal peat smoke, salty and tarry, alongside lemon peel, green apple, pear, and soft vanilla and marzipan. Herbal marram grass adds freshness. The palate is viscous, weighty, and peppery, with salted caramel, smoked apple, toasted coconut, and praline. The peat lingers, savory and warming.
