Bruichladdich 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml

Bruichladdich sits on Islay's shore and is best known today for its unpeated core range, the Classic Laddie, even though the island itself is famous worldwide for heavy peat. The distillery also produces Port Charlotte, a heavily peated line, and Octomore, among the most heavily peated Scotch whiskies made anywhere, giving Bruichladdich an unusually wide stylistic range under one roof. The distillery was mothballed in 1994 and sat silent for seven years, with only two staff members left to watch over the maturing casks, until it reopened in 2001 and began the resurrection that this bottling now celebrates.

The Bruichladdich Thirty is part of the distillery's Luxury Redefined range, its first permanent high age single malt alongside an 18 year old sibling. Distilled before the 1994 closure, the whisky spent its entire thirty years maturing in hand-selected ex-bourbon casks, drawing on stock that quietly survived the distillery's dormant years. It is bottled at 43% ABV without added color and left unchill filtered, arriving in a bottle made largely from recycled glass as part of the distillery's sustainability efforts.

The nose opens with toasted oak, coconut, and Brazil nuts, joined by wild gorse flower and a touch of vanilla, while floral notes of geranium and rose meet pear drops and candied lemon. The palate turns toward honey, soft vanilla, and dark chocolate, with a gentle maritime salinity carrying through to a warm, oak tinged finish that pairs beautifully with fresh oysters.
