Glen Ord distillery has operated since 1838 in Muir of Ord on the Black Isle peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, and it remains the only single malt distillery still active in that part of the country. Owned by Diageo, the distillery is best known for its official range under The Singleton of Glen Ord name, though its spirit has long been prized by independent bottlers seeking to showcase a different side of the distillate. This particular expression comes from The Classic Cask, a range produced by the Scottish bottler Craigton Packaging, which sources single casks from various distilleries and bottles them independently rather than under the distillery's own label.

Distilled in 2007 and released at nine years old, this whisky was matured in oak casks selected to let Glen Ord's underlying character speak for itself rather than layering on heavy wood influence. The distillery draws on locally grown Highland barley and traditional pot stills, producing a spirit generally regarded as gentle and approachable even at a relatively young age, which made it a fitting candidate for an independent single cask release rather than a longer distillery-aged bottling.

The whisky opens with a creamy, floral aroma that carries real elegance for its age. On the palate, a well-judged balance of sweetness and dryness gives way to notes of malted barley and walnut, while the finish stretches on comfortably, staying warm and satisfying rather than fading quickly.

"Premium whiskies bearing The Classic Cask label are among the most rare and unique spirits ever to be offered to the discerning enthusiast. Their unparalleled quality, richness, intensity of flavor, and remarkable smoothness are testament to the slow and painstaking processes, which were employed in their production. The Classic Cask Small-Batch production is just that: never more than 800 bottles to a batch. Each bottle is numbered, its label indicating the total production output, as well as distillation and bottling dates.

This magnificent whisky has a creamy, floral aroma and a superb balance of sweetness and dryness. Hints of barley and walnuts on the palate. The finish is long and satisfying.
