GlenAllachie is a Speyside distillery founded in 1967 that spent decades operating quietly in the shadow of its more famous neighbors. That changed in 2017, when industry veteran Billy Walker, with over five decades in the whisky trade, acquired the distillery from Pernod Ricard and set about reshaping it into one of Speyside's most inventive, cask-driven producers, known for pushing beyond traditional bourbon and sherry wood into rarer cask types.

This particular release was distilled on August 7, 2014, and matured for eleven years in a virgin Japanese Mizunara oak hogshead, cask number 8481. Mizunara, cut from the slow-growing Quercus mongolica tree, is notoriously difficult to work with, prone to leaking and requiring roughly two centuries of growth before the wood is usable, which makes it one of the most demanding and costly cask materials in the industry. The whisky was bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with no added color, yielding a limited run of just over three hundred bottles.

The nose offers coconut, pineapple, sandalwood, and a trace of Japanese incense, opening into heather honey, orchard fruit, and warm spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with honeycomb, cinnamon apple, cocoa, and toasted hazelnut leading to a long, warming finish.
