Glenallachie 12 yr 2012 Red Wine Hogshead Cask No 804564 Single Malt Whiskey 700ml
The GlenAllachie distillery sits at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside and has undergone a striking transformation since 2017, when whisky veteran Billy Walker, alongside Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson, took ownership and set the distillery on a new course. Rather than continuing its old role as a workhorse for blends, GlenAllachie now channels its fruit driven spirit into an ambitious cask program, with Walker personally selecting wood for both its core range and a steady stream of single cask releases that showcase individual barrels at their peak.
This bottling comes from cask number 804564, distilled on September 9, 2012 and matured for twelve years entirely in a single Red Wine Hogshead before being bottled in May 2025. As a single cask expression, it was never blended with other barrels, which lets the character of this particular hogshead come through undiluted. Only 245 bottles were filled from the cask, released at a robust 60.6% ABV, un-chill-filtered and with its natural burnished rose gold color left untouched.
The nose opens with glazed cherries and warm cinnamon spice, layered with poached orchard fruit, honeycomb, and a faint eucalyptus lift over sweet molasses. On the palate, bramble jam and rich mocha meet heather honey, candied apple, and baking spices, with black cherries rounding out a rich, wine driven finish.
