Glenallachie 13 yr Madeira Wood Finish Single Malt Whisky 700ml
The GlenAllachie distillery sits at the foot of Ben Rinnes near Aberlour in Speyside, founded in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson. For much of its history the distillery supplied whisky mainly for blends, but that changed in 2017 when former BenRiach managing director Billy Walker, along with Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson, purchased the site and relaunched it as The GlenAllachie Distillers Company. Now independently owned, the distillery has built a reputation around fruit forward single malts and an active wood finishing program overseen personally by Walker.
This 13 Year Old comes from the third batch of GlenAllachie's Wood Finish Range. The spirit spent more than eleven years maturing in American oak barrels before being transferred into hand selected Madeira barriques that had previously held wine made from Malvasia grapes. That finishing period brings a lush, fruity dimension to the whisky's classic Speyside base. It is bottled at 48% ABV, left unchill filtered, and made without added coloring.
The nose offers creamy vanilla, almond croissant, and a whiff of tropical fruit alongside soft stone fruit. On the palate, juicy peaches and apricots meet a touch of marzipan, gentle citrus zest, and tangy spice, all carried by an underlying sweetness. It makes a fine partner for poached pears or a soft, ripe blue cheese.
