Glendronach 15 yr Sherry Cask Single Malt Whiskey 700ml
GlenDronach Distillery was founded in 1826 by James Allardes in Aberdeenshire's Eastern Highlands, making it one of the first distilleries to legally produce whisky under the Excise Act of 1823. Production was mothballed between 1996 and 2002, and after the distillery was later acquired by the BenRiach Distillery Company under Billy Walker, the 15 Year Old was reintroduced under the name Revival to mark its return. Ownership has since passed to Brown-Forman, the company behind Jack Daniel's, following its 2016 acquisition of BenRiach.
GlenDronach's signature is heavy sherry cask maturation, and the Revival is aged for 15 years in a combination of Pedro XimĂ©nez and Oloroso sherry casks sourced from AndalucĂa, Spain. Production still follows traditional methods dating back two centuries, including a rake-and-plough mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks, and an unusually shaped wash still designed to limit reflux, all of which contribute to a bold, weighty spirit well suited to heavy sherry influence. The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration or added coloring.
The nose bursts with maraschino cherry, ripe bramble, and dark chocolate mint, with hints of orange bitters and walnut. On the palate, honey-glazed apricot and fig give way to black cherry, warming spice, and rich muscovado sugar. The finish is long, enveloping, and layered with dark honey and herbal bitterness.
