Glenfarclas 12 yr Whiskey 750ml
Glenfarclas has operated in Ballindalloch, Speyside, since 1836 and remains one of the few major Scotch distilleries still owned and run by the same family, now in its sixth generation. The distillery is known for using the largest stills in the Highland region and for direct-fired distillation, a traditional and increasingly rare method that heats the stills over an open flame rather than with steam, contributing extra weight and richness to the spirit.
The 12 Year Old is matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks rather than the more common combination of bourbon-cask aging followed by a brief sherry finish, giving the whisky its deep color and pronounced sherried character throughout. It is made using 100% malted barley and spring water drawn from Ben Rinnes, then bottled at 43% ABV.
The nose offers dried apricot, orange peel, and toasted oak alongside soft sherry sweetness and a whisper of smoke. On the palate, date and walnut cake lead into vanilla, cinnamon, and baked apple, with stone fruit rounding out the sherry influence. The finish is long and warming, closing on baking spice and a trace of citrus.
