Glenglassaugh Distillery sits on the coast of the Moray Firth near Sandend Bay in Aberdeenshire, founded in 1875 by Colonel James Moir. The distillery's history has been marked by repeated closures, most notably a stretch from 1986 to 2008, before an independent investment group brought it back into production. Brown-Forman later acquired the distillery through its purchase of BenRiach, and under master blender Rachel Barrie, Glenglassaugh has built a modern identity around its coastal setting, drawing water from the nearby Glassaugh Spring.

Portsoy is a richly peated, non-age-statement single malt named for the fishing village neighboring the distillery. The whiskey is matured across a combination of sherry, bourbon, and port casks, a triple-cask approach meant to layer sweetness and depth onto the peated spirit's inherent maritime character. It is bottled at 49.1% ABV.

The nose brings peat and sea salt together with chocolate, vanilla, toffee, and vegetal notes. On the palate, smoke and salinity meet blackberry, red fruit, and salted caramel, with tropical fruit and a savory, soy-like richness running underneath. The finish is sweet, smoky, and salty all at once, fading gently.
