The Glenlivet traces its roots to the early 1800s, when founder George Smith ran a still on the Duke of Gordon's estate in Speyside before whisky distilling was legalized in the region in 1823. Smith was the first to receive an official license and named his newly legitimate operation after the local parish. Today owned by Pernod Ricard, The Glenlivet has grown into one of the best-selling single malt brands in the world, drawing its water from Josie's Well and nearby springs.

The 15 Year Old is initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in new French Limousin oak, the same variety more commonly used for cognac and fine wine, along with a small portion of sherry oak. Glenlivet was among the first Scotch distilleries to use this cask type, sourcing the wood from trees felled in France's Dordogne region. The whiskey is bottled at 40% ABV.

The nose brings dried fruit, buttery fudge, green apple, and rose petal, with a base of toasted almond. On the palate, oaky apple crumble meets cinnamon and clove spice, sweet toffee, and toasted hazelnut. The finish is spicy and dry, with warming pepper and a trace of tar.
