Hazelburn (Springbank) 7 yr Oloroso Cask Matured Single Malt Whiskey 700ml

Hazelburn comes from Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries, founded in 1828 and still owned by the same family, now under Hedley G. Wright. Springbank is unusual in that it handles every stage of production on site, from malting its own barley to distilling, maturing, and bottling, using methods passed down through generations. Hazelburn is one of three distinct single malts made there, alongside Springbank and the peated Longrow, and takes its name from a historic Campbeltown distillery that closed decades ago.

Unlike its siblings, Hazelburn is unpeated and triple distilled, giving it a lighter, rounder character from the outset. This particular release spends its full seven years maturing entirely in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, rather than simply finishing in them, allowing the sherry influence to build slowly alongside the spirit's natural fruitiness. It is bottled at 47.9% ABV without chill filtration or added color, as a limited annual release.

The nose brings maraschino cherry, fudge, treacle, dates, and brandy butter. On the palate, brown sugar, ginger, raisins, and redcurrant jelly come through, closing with sticky toffee pudding, blackcurrant, and a touch of herbal tarragon.
