Jura 12 yr Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
Isle of Jura Distillery was founded in 1962 by local landowners looking to revive whisky making on this remote island in the Inner Hebrides, just north of Islay. Jura is famously sparsely populated, often described as home to more deer than people, and the distillery in the small town of Craighouse remains the island's sole producer. Its unusually tall stills are central to the house style, encouraging a lighter, more refined spirit even when a touch of peat smoke is part of the recipe.
The 12 Year Old is matured primarily in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, then finished for a period in casks that previously held oloroso sherry. That combination brings together Jura's gently smoky, lightly peated character with the sweetness and dark fruit that sherry wood contributes, resulting in a whisky built to introduce newcomers to the distillery's broader range. It is bottled at 40 percent ABV.
The nose offers soft peach, tropical fruit, and lightly toasted walnut alongside a whisper of smoke. On the palate, that fruitiness carries through with banana and citrus, joined by dark chocolate and a note of fresh coffee. The finish is smooth and balanced, closing on a gentle trace of smoke.
