Leapfrog is one of Murray McDavid's longest-running and best-known bottling names, used as a playful stand-in for a distillery on the south coast of Islay that markets itself as home to the world's most richly flavored Scotch whisky. Murray McDavid, the independent bottler founded in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and former Springbank director Gordon Wright, has released various vintages under the Leapfrog name for decades, each one showcasing the raw, maritime character of the source spirit through the company's hands-on approach to cask selection.

This 14-year-old release is matured entirely in American oak bourbon barrels, a straightforward single-cask-type approach that lets the distillery's signature peat and coastal salinity come through clearly, rather than layering in additional finishing casks. As with all Murray McDavid releases, it is bottled without chill filtration or added color, following the founders' original philosophy for the brand.

The nose leads with intense medicinal peat, iodine, and sea smoke, gradually softening into vanilla, coconut, and acacia honey drawn from the American oak. On the palate, briny, saline intensity meets creamy caramel sweetness, closing on a long, smoky, slightly sweet finish.
