Oban 14 yr Single Malt Whiskey 750ml

Oban Distillery was established in 1794 in the small fishing town of Oban on Scotland's west coast, making it one of the oldest distilleries in the country and one that predates the legalization of whisky-making in Scotland. The town itself grew up around the distillery rather than the other way around, and Oban remains one of the smallest producers in Diageo's portfolio. Its coastal location, straddling the line between the Highlands and the Hebrides, earned it a distinct classification often described as "West Highland," a style that bridges the smoky character of island whiskies with the lighter, fruitier profile of the Highlands.

The whisky is made using small, lamp-glass-shaped copper pot stills, among the smallest in Scotland, and the spirit is slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs positioned outside the distillery, where it is exposed to the salt air off the harbor. Fermentation runs longer than at many distilleries, and light peat is used sparingly. The spirit is then matured for 14 years, primarily in refill American oak ex-bourbon casks, before bottling at 43% ABV.

The nose offers orange peel, honeyed malt, and dried fruit alongside a gentle waft of peat smoke and sea air. On the palate, citrus and toffee sweetness meet toasted cereal and a distinct coastal salinity, with smoke present but never dominant. The finish is long and warming, closing with lingering spice and maritime notes. It pairs particularly well with smoked salmon or other shellfish.
