The ImpEx Collection Benrinnes Distillery 12 yr Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
The ImpEx Collection is an independent bottling series curated by Sam Filmus and Chris Uhde of ImpEx Beverages, a spirits importer known for sourcing single-cask whiskies from distilleries around the world. Rather than let exceptional casks disappear into blends, the pair seeks out limited, distinctive lots and bottles them under the ImpEx name. This release comes from Benrinnes, a Speyside distillery built in 1826 whose output is normally reserved almost entirely for blended Scotch, making an independent single malt bottling from the distillery a rare find.
This particular expression was distilled on June 9, 2011, and matured for twelve years in a single hogshead cask before being bottled on March 5, 2024, yielding only 273 bottles worldwide. It carries cask number 306532 and is bottled at natural cask strength, 58.9% ABV, without chill filtration or added color, allowing the character of the single cask to come through undiluted.
On the nose, cherries and fresh rosemary lead the way, an unusual and fragrant combination for a Speyside malt. The palate continues that theme, with cherry and herbal rosemary joined by candle wax and red fruit in a notably chewy, full-bodied texture. The finish brightens with blood orange, adding a fresh citrus lift that rounds out the whisky's more brooding fruit and wax notes.
