2021 Muga - Rioja Reserva (750ml)
Wine Spectator 2025 Wine Value of the Year
One of Rioja's most traditionally minded producers, founded in Haro in 1932 with its own in-house cooperage — a rarity that gives Muga total control over oak character from barrel to bottle. Hand harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, and aged 24 months in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels, then egg white fined and cellared a minimum of 12 months before release. Fresh and minerally up front, opening to reveal a fine mesh of chopped cherry and plum skin flavors with fragrant hints of ground coffee, smoked paprika, and dried marjoram; sculpted tannins define the long, slightly chewy finish. The Wine Advocate calls it a "textbook example" of the Muga style with "clout, elegance and freshness." One of the greatest values in all of Spain. Drink now–2035.
