Godello is having its moment, and this is one of Bierzo's finest expressions of it. Casar de Burbia is a certified-organic, estate-only family winery in Valtuille de Arriba — the most coveted corner of the appellation — farming slate, quartz, and clay soils at altitude for Godello with real structure and aging potential.

The winemaking is Burgundian in spirit: fermentation begins in stainless steel, finishes in used 500- and 600-liter French oak barrels, and the wine rests on its lees for nearly a year with periodic stirring before returning to tank for another seven months. No shortcuts.

Vinous called it "intense and grippy with a talcum-like texture... remarkable freshness and concentration for a white... a complex Godello with slightly phenolic notes and a long finish." On the nose: bitter orange, fresh grapefruit, a touch of flint, white flowers, and cream. Think white Burgundy energy from northwestern Spain. Drink 2025–2030.

"The 2023 Godello Valdepiñeiro is a paraje-designated white fromBierzo. Fermented in oak, it opens with notes of bitter orange, grapefruit and a touch of flint, alongside hints of wood and cream. Intense and grippy with a talcum-like texture, this shows remarkable freshness and concentration for a white. The 2023 is a complex Godello with slightly phenolic notes and a long finish.
